Task 7 - looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you ahve learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Task 6 - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Task 5 - how did you attract/ address your audience?

Task 4- Who would be the audience for you media product?

Our media product would appear to selective groups. It would definitely be appealing to an audience of horror film lovers, who also enjoy independent film. I would class this film age group to be between 16- 35, but I would gather there would be a film viewing restriction of 18. This would mainly lean towards a male audience die to the level of violence.
The ideal model I would suggest would watch this film would be about a 19/20 year old, who enjoys violent video games, and have an interest in the internet, and would have a great education of technology.

Task 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Due to our thriller, ‘Reservoir’, being violent and quite similar to American thriller/ action movies I would put in to the Hollywood region. It may not be a blockbuster but it would attract mainly males around the ages of 16 to 30, so would appeal to a large amount of people. I don’t believe it would need a massive budget compared to other Hollywood movies, I would estimate of about £20 million.
Hollywood would be our institution and it would be distributed to cinema theatres world wide. It’s not the right film to do in 3D, so I wouldn’t hit that audience but I think the way we would advertise the film would have to be the way we would draw our audience in.
To keep up with constantly moving technology I would have the film advertised via the internet; email, online games, social networks and blogs. Social networks would be the most successful with-in that list. They are used daily and would be the perfect place to reach out to all ages. Due to the film being quite a male dominated thriller/ action film, online games would grab their attention. There have recently been articles about young men and boys spending too much time on games online and using games consoles, therefore this would be another great way to reach out to our audience. Releasing a game just before the film being released would stir up interest about the film, and encourage people to come and watch it in the cinema.

Task 2 - How does your product represent particular social groups?

Pip our female victim, will attract males; due to her being young, attractive, wearing very little clothing, being vulnerable and she is at the being she is jogging down the road, these things will reach to a male audience. Obviously this is very stereotypical, but this is general idea of what men would want to watch, it then males stereotypically like to watch violence and here they can watch an attractive young, blonde being beaten.

Task 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Research

Before finalising our thriller and the characters I did some research. The film 15 Minutes has two male protagonists, and they get a thrill out of torturing and murdering women, they video what they are doing to try and become ‘media darlings’.
Ironically one of our male protagonists and one of the main men in 15 Minutes look very alike! The other male actor is pretty large and Russian, again very like our other protagonist.

I liked the general idea of the film, and got ideas and themes to help create the idea of the males in our thriller, enjoying what they are doing and getting a thrill out of hurting people.

Reseach

A couple of weeks before the shoot another group member and I went to take pictures of our shooting locations. Above you can see pictures of the street we filmed on which was in Ewhurst. The road was very quite therefore was perfect to film as we would have no disruption from other cars or the public.

Below you can see pictures of the location for the torturing scene. This is located in our media teacher’s house and this is in Ockley. So both our locations for filming were both very local which was very convenient.
