Band – Two Door Cinema Club
Song – Eat That Up It’s Good For You
Two Door Cinema Club are an electropop/indie rock band, formed in 2007.
Open to view a traditional looking room, a bedroom. A girl sitting on a chair, looking in a mirror applying lipstick, wonky, acting drunk, wine bottles lying around.
From the line ‘it’s too late’, to the line ‘with double vision’, we see the band playing in a plain room, with blue walls. And on the line ‘and so your drinking in your room’ we go back to the girl, in the traditional room, and there is a perfect looking woman, in a black nurses outfit, with high hills, holding a clipboard, staring at the girl, judging her, the girl is standing in the room, looking confused and lost.
from ‘its not the same’ to the end, we watch the band.

I couldn't seem to find the actual music video, but this is the song.

Feedback

This is disappointing, Millie, as you haven't carried out what you were asked to do for prep. There is no sign of the brief, the three initial ideas or the details of your group's act and pitch, let alone the research that I asked you to do. It is vital that you take these initial stages seriously if you want to perform as well as possible in your Research and Planning assessment for the Advanced Portfolio - time to raise your game, Millie.

Idea 2:

Band – weezer.
Song - Perfect situation

Weezer is an American alternative rock band that formed in los angeles in 1992.
There is an 40 second intro of the band playing, with out lyrics, the opening would be them playing in a completely dark room, at the beginning of the intro the drums are played quite heavily, at every beat the light shine from different part of the room, the floor, sides and roof, like holes are being made. Once the lyrics have started they are completely lit up.
From the line ‘hungry night..’ it swaps to a scene of walking down a dark, street lit street and road, with couples walking past, hanging of their partner’s arms, smiling, laughing in love. Then he sits down on a bench and pulls out a picture of him and a girl in ‘love’ and the line, ’get your hands off the girl, can’t you see that she belongs to me?’, the girl from the picture walks past on the other side of the road, hand in hand with another man. For “singing… ooohhhhh oh. Ooohhhhh oh. Ooohhhhhh’ it can go back to the band playing in the light. Till the end of the song.

Idea 1:

Band – Little Man Tate.

Song - House Party At Boothy’s

Little Man Tate is are a four-piece indie band.

The general idea would be to have an empty room, with scruffy furniture and the band playing in the middle. The band playing would be the main focus.
For the verse “well things can’t seem to get much better, scensters dance in their v-necks sweaters, these four walls won’t forget tonight, won’t forget to night”, whiles males dancing with sweaters, the could be writing, or maybe scrabble pieces being placed along the wall, repeating ‘won’t forget tonight’. For the lyric ‘me boyfriend on his way he’ll be here to collect me’, an indie, fashionable looking girl could mouth the words.

It would be quite simple but I believe this song reflects something quite simple, it has very narrative lyrics, so to have a complicated video just would be too much.

From the beginning of the advanced portfolio we have been learning about the general structure of a music video.
A music video promotes a specific single and/or an album. it also promotes the artist/band and helps feed into a 'star image'. this is achieved by the video containing performance, a narrative and having symbolic images.
we have also looked at the ideologies of the music industry as said by Negus in 1989. he explained he would look for a band that would just get up and do it. we also looked at Richard Dyer and his views on stardom. he created two main Paradox's. Paradox 1 - 'the star must be simultaneously ordinary and extraordinary for the consumer.' Paradox 2 - ' the star must be simultaneously present and absent for the consumer.
